The preamble known to be the basic structure and spirit of Indian constitution recognizes our country as Secular. Our elections are fought vigorously on this very issue. Secularity necessarily means separation of state and religion. BJP is grossly considered as saffron brigade due to their root and later the barbaric act of demolition of Babri Masjidh. Rightly so. The pogrom against Muslims in Gujrat has left a deep scar on the spirit of secularity in India.
Congress project themselves as the greatest proponent of secularism. Back in 1984 after the tragic assassination of Mrs. Indira Gandhi , the nation has experience brutal carnage of Sikh and Rajiv Gandhi defended the atrocity with brazen shamelessness saying : “ The Erath shakes when a big tree( Indira Gandhi) falls”. It was intriguing why the earth shaken only under the Sikhs?
In Hyderabad, one of the trusted allies to congress is a political party whose agenda still remains as to safeguard the interest and to empower the minorities and specially one particular community, instead of holistic growth. These barbaric hooligans vandalized the inauguration of Talslima Nasreen’s new Telugu translation “Shodh”. This is a kind of quintessential secularity!
Now let us concentrate on the sanctimonious Lefts, renowned for their “liberal” and “holier than thou attitude”. Communism necessarily means secularism. Indian left parties has already gone through the trauma of supporting “Bourgeois “America-Dependent” congress government for the sake of preventing communal forces ascending to power. But they embrace Madani, who was convicted and imprisoned (also lost one of his leg) for spreading communal hatred and the Bomb blast. The soldiers of secularity like Paswan pleads for a Muslim President! Though there is a thick line of difference between secularity and minority appeasement the so called secular parties are caught on the later half.
True secularism is an utopia in India. We fight between different religions, betweens different sects of same religion, even between sub sects of same sect. Democracy also emerges as the breeding ground of fanaticism. The other Gandhi (Varun) wins election after spewing venom on minorities and avowing to behead the enemies of the Hindus. Actually mutual hatred prepares fecund ground to sow a seed of mistrust, which grows up as a tree and facilitate the divisive power.
Also I think we need some changes in our sacred constitution which allows different laws for people belonging to different religions which violates the very primary motto of equality. State cannot or should not provide subsidy for “HAJ” or “Amarnath Yatra” or to say any religious activity!
Am I selling mirror in the land of the blinds? To the masses blinded due to orthodoxy, fanaticism, superstition and selfishness , To the assassins of Mahatma , or to the dutiful citizens and the lawmaker of one of the secular democracies.
