The great Indian Sleep: holding the country together!

India the land of wanders, unity in diversity, worlds largest democracy. It has become one of the lagest economy after liberalisation in 1990. It inflated the GDP by an astounding rate of 9% per year before the worst calamity hit the current economic world. Now the world is writhing under the prevailing recession but the jaggernaut of India economy is slowly but steadily going forward. The sensex has recovered dramatically. During last 10 years of ruling by congress and BJP govt, we have heard the rhetoric India is shining as well as congrees ka haath  aam admi ke sath .

Let me analyze the Human development scenario. HDI is calculated based on three main criteria: Life expectancy, education, literacy and standard of living. India is placed 132. Yes you read it right. It comes after Bhutan! War ravaged island Srilanka is way ahead. So what have spend billions to produce atom bomb which can annihilate both this country at a go. We are a mighty economic and military power! Who cares about HDI!

Let us concentrate on Life expectancy. With female foetiicide rate among the highest and soaring child mortality rate , we are 145th country in the world. We are familiar with the heart wrenching incidents of new born babies been carried away by dogs. “It happens only in India”.

We have fabricated a picture of shining India through Bollywood and NRIs but we cannot run away from this very fact.

India has always excelled in the field of education and literacy. We have maintained our tradition with a rank of 140+. Kudos to India shining. Don’t consider the only the IT coolies those who have migrated to different parts of the world or the I-Bankers , CA even the unemployed youths . Try to get the larger picture from macro level. India is far more diverse and gigantic than we imagine.

One third of hungry, impoverished people live in India. 40% of our population is malnourished. So, what we are only the fourth country in the list of Billionaires’ count.53 Indians are billionaires. If we calculate their average wealth as 10 billion we get a figure of 530 billion dollars that is being  held by 53 upper echelon Indians! As per UN count we have nearly 500 million hungry malnourished poorest of the poor people. Simple rule of division tells us each poor Indian can get RS40,000 if the wealth is distributed!

This Rs 40,000 is sum of their 5 years income! Can you smell a revelution? Mao Ze Dong, Lenin, French revolution? Relax man! The mass is under spell of cast, creed, politics, religion, ethnicity, Mayabati, Lalu, and above all Dhoni and Sharukh khan!
